High-Five for Friday: Bentley Makes The News, IUGR 5K Participation Increases, Mommy and Me, Cut and Color, and Baby Steps to the Potty

It's Friday -- and I'm sending all of my readers a virtual high-five. I don't know about you, but I'm thrilled that the weekend is finally here.

This week has been somewhat quiet due to snow and weather-related closures, but a lot of incredible things have happened!  Here's what I've been up to:

1. Bentley Makes the News. Look who's famous!!!!!

Bentley, one of the main characters in my children's book, "Bentley's Preemie Blessing," made the cover of The Connection newspaper this week!  Bentley is my shih tzu-poodle and big brother to Emily.

I'm excited that Bentley made the cover page and am thrilled with the accompanying article -- written by the amazing and talented reporter, Andrea Worker!

Please take time to check out The Connection newspaper and read about various pets in my community!

Bentley is featured on the cover and on page eight. I couldn't be more proud of him.

2. IUGR Virtual 5K Participation Increases. Participation in the virtual 5K walk to increase awareness about Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR), a medical condition that affects the growth of babies in the womb, continues to increase.

Thank you to Cindy, Katy, Jennifer, Becca, Mary, Craig, Terry, and Phyllis for participating as memebers of my Preemie Blessings team. I'm pleased to report that the IUGR Awareness 5K is currently being represented by supporters in 24 states and four countries so far. Many thanks to my teammates for adding Indiana to the list of states with representation.

It's not too late to sign-up for the virtual 5K. As a reminder, the virtual walk will start on March 11, 2015, and will end on March 13, 2015. Proceeds will benefit the Graham's Foundation, which provides support to parents of preemies.

3. Mommy and Me Classes. Despite the snow, we were able to attend a few Mommy and Me Classes this week.

It was great to attend gymnastics mid-week. Although the class involves parallel bars, rings, uneven bars, and balance beams, Emily prefers to keep it simple. Her favorite pieces of equipment are the mats (for rolling purposes) and the slide! I don't blame her -- as these simple pieces of equipment look like a ton of fun!

We also attended two Tiny Tots classes today. One was a regularly scheduled class and the other was a make-up class.  I'm pretty tuckered out!

4. Cut and Color. On Monday night, I got my hair cut and colored. Diane at First Impressions Salon in Fairfax was able to transform my hair from drab to fab!  My hair looks and feels great now.

5. Baby Steps to the Potty. Emily isn't able to communicate when she needs a new diaper, but she has expressed an interest in the potty --and loves saying the word, "potty."  We let her check out several different models of potties at the store. I ordered what appeared to be her favorite potty. It's a princess potty -- so she'll have a pink and white thrown to sit on. The potty even provides an encouraging sound when a deposit has been made. It hasn't arrived yet, but a book about the potty has already arrived.  I can't wait to read it!

  2. Oooo what a cool princess potty! I'm kind of dreading the potty training phase. Did you just wait for Emily to show interest? Any tips??? And we really need to sign up for more mommy and me type classes. I know they exist near us, but I just haven't signed up for any... Hope you're having a great weekend!

  6. Bentley is too cute! We have Kane a potty, but it's kinda been put on the back burner due to the move. And there's nothing like a new cute and color to make you feel better--it looks great!
