Top 10 Fall Obsessions

I love the fall and am completely obsessed with some things that come along with this special season! Below is a list of my top 10 fall obsessions:

1. Prematurity Awareness Month. I'm obsessed with Prematurity Awareness Month which kicks off on November 1 -- and includes World Prematurity Day (November 17). This special month provides us with an incredible opportunity to educate others about prematurity.

I plan to create a special place online during Prematurity Awareness Month to showcase stories about other preemies. So far, about half a dozen moms have expressed interest in participating in this initiative. I appreciate these moms for their courage and willingness to share their personal stories. If you haven't e-mailed me your questionnaire yet, please do so, as November is just a few days away! In addition, I'd love it if a few more preemie families would agree to participate.

If you would like to join-in on this important advocacy effort, it's not too late. I have a list of questions for you to answer. The questions and answers will be published in an interview-like format. Just send me an e-mail message (preemieblessings@gmail.com) to get started!

2. School Pictures. I just took my preemie-toddler, Emily, to get her school picture taken. Although Emily's not officially enrolled in school, she is taking several Mommy and Me classes. One of the classes offered its students a photo shoot. I jumped at the opportunity to have Emily's photo taken by a professional photographer. Although she wasn't interested in smiling for the pictures, I'm obsessed! I can't wait to see her pictures! I keep checking the Mommy and Me website for details about when the photos will be made available for purchase.

3. Apple Cider. A nice glass of apple cider taste so good on a crisp fall day!

4. Hats and scarves. I'm excited that it's already getting cold enough to wear hats and scarfs. My favorite hat and scarf ensemble is hot pink and black.

5. Corky & Company Coats. I've written about Corky & Company in the past and adore the company's whimsical children's coats. Over the summer, I bought two Corky & Company coats for Emily. Unfortunately, the company shut it's doors a few months following my purchase. I'm hoping that the coats will fit my preemie-toddler for at least two years.

6. UGG Boots: Some like UGG boots, others don't. My husband is in the "others" category. He says that my UGGs are ugly with a capital "Ug," but I don't care. I only have one pair of UGG boots. -- and I absolutely love them.

My UGGs are more than five years old. They have served as warm and cozy companions to my feet. The furry lining of the boots has taken good care of me and kept me warm. I've also found my UGGs to be both reliable and versatile. They have accompanied my feet to Washington Capitals games and even to church.

7. Wagon Rides. Sitting on a wagon, lined with hay, and pulled by a tractor is like mom and apple pie. Enough said!

8. Everything camo. I appreciate everything our servicemen and women do for our country. I also love camo -- and the concept of not being seen. In fact, I might just have to order my first pair of camo pants.

9. Dark Purple Nail Polish. I just got a pedicure and discovered Opi's San Francisco Collection. The dark purple polish, called "In the Cable Car Pool Lane," is sleek and sophisticated. It's too bad that I damaged my middle toe on the foot of the bed after getting my much-needed pedicure.

10.  Leaves Changing Color.  Most of my childhood was spent growing up in a part of California where the leaves don't change color and the same season is experienced year-round. I love the colors of the leaves on the trees in Northern Virginia -- and can't wait to jump into a pile of them!

  1. Opening the windows and cuddling up under all the blankets at night. The house temperature gets down to the low 60s.

  4. OMG, a month for preemies! My little cousin was a preemie. She is such a fighter. Even today, still finding out about various issues, but she recently had a healthy baby girl. I hated those UGG boots when they came out. But they seem so comfortable, the look is growing on me. I’m sure I’ll have a pair by next year ;)
