Preemie Blessings Briefs: Hello Stranger, Neonatal Intensive Care Awareness Month, 20 Months Old, Everything is "B," Puzzled with Puzzles, Excited About Classes, and Coupons for Savings

HELLO STRANGER: I apologize that new blog posts haven't been issued in awhile, but I've been on vacation. I went to the Outer Banks for a week -- and had a fabulous time on the beach, at the pool, and searching for wild horses.

Traveling with a toddler, a dog, and a husband is a lot of work. I think I need a vacation from my vacation -- and all of the laundry that comes with it!

Below are a few pictures of the Outer Banks. More details about my vacation, including my lost (and thankfully found) dog, Bentley, will be divulged at a later time. I'm still a bit traumatized from this unfortunate occurrence.

NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE AWARENESS MONTH:  September is Neonatal Intensive Care Awareness Month. Who are you honoring? I'm celebrating my daughter, Emily, and all of the doctors and nurses in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) who helped her during her journey. I've also been reading "Bentley's Preemie Blessing" to Emily so that she can begin to understand her entrance into the world and her NICU stay. Are you doing anything special to raise awareness about Neonatal Intensive Care?

20 MONTHS OLD: Emily is 20 months old (17 months adjusted) today. It's hard to believe that my little girl is growing up so fast! Everyone said that time would fly by, but I didn't believe them until now.

EVERYTHING IS "B:" I've been working really hard to help Emily with her speech. Emily sees a speech therapist weekly. And, I constantly work with Emily to promote language development. At this point, I think Emily may know how to say the following words:  baby, hi, happy, dog, get down, and "B."

Sometimes I call Bentley "B" or "B dog." I think "B" has stuck with Emily. I've noticed that she points and exclaims "B" when she sees other dogs or even other objects. So, most everything is "B" now.

PUZZLED WITH PUZZLES: I've been helping Emily with puzzles and shape sorters. I've found that some of these toys may be too complicated -- and have too many pieces for her to process and determine proper placement. So, I've been covering parts of the puzzle and shape sorter that aren't being used with my hand to help direct Emily to the proper shape and where it fits.

EXCITED ABOUT CLASSES: Emily is signed up for three "Mommy and Me" classes that start next week. I don't think Emily knows what's in store for her, but I'm excited about ballet, theme-based classes, and arts and crafts!

COUPONS FOR SAVINGS: As mentioned, we just got back from vacation, and I have heaps of laundry to do. Bentley even has laundry. My laundry frown was turned upside down when I discovered this coupon for $2 off one Dreft Detergent. Emily has very sensitive skin so I use this special detergent on all of her clothes and bedding.

When it comes to drying, I use Bounce Free Dryer sheets to help protect her sensitive skin. I also found a coupon for $0.50 off one Bounce Dryer sheets (8 count or larger). The coupon can be found here.

I hope you find these coupons to be helpful.  Happy washing and drying!

  1. The Outer Banks pictures are beautiful. I love the horses! You are right, vacations are not always totally relaxing. It wasn't until after going camping as an adult that I had a true appreciation of all the weekends and weeks that my family spent camping when I was a kid. (Not that you were camping) I never realized how much work my mom put into it. From the getting ready, grocery shopping for the trip, packing, setting up, cleaning up, repacking, and unpacking and washing, putting away etc...... Plus, she still cooked and did other "Mom" stuff while we were at camp. The saying is "A Mother's work is never done." BTW, after a handful of camping trips with John, encompassing all the chores above the camping trailer was sold!
