Preemie Blessings' Briefs: Panda Rainout, Tipping the Scales, Fan in the News, Synagis Worries, Flu Vaccine & Book Giveaway

Happy Thursday! I'm trying something new today. Below are a few things that are on the top of my mind, written in a quick and easy-to-read format.

PANDA RAINOUT - Unfortunately, we were unable to attend Saturday's birthday party in Washington, D.C., for Bao Bao, the giant panda. It was raining and we didn't want to drive two hours to be in the rain and potentially get sick.

We made a birthday card for Bao Bao and tweeted it to him. Bao Bao is a techie and we were honored to get a return tweet that was both personable and sweet!

We also made a panda mask using construction paper and a paper plate. Although I did a lot of the work, Emily was able to help glue the pieces together with hand-over-hand assistance.

TIPPING THE SCALES - Emily had a nutritionist appointment this week and tipped the scales at a whopping 19 pounds 14 ounces. Apparently, Craig and I are doing something right when it comes to food and nutrition issues. Or, maybe the appetite stimulant is finally kicking in. Yipee!

FAN IN THE NEWS - Cindy Jensen, my incredible mom and the number one fan of Preemie Blessings, wrote a thoughtful and informative letter to the editor about prematurity, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit stays, and how to help preemie parents during this difficult journey.  Check out her informative piece here.

BOOK GIVEAWAY - Are you still hoping to win a copy of "Bentley's Preemie Blessing?" The Graham's Foundation and Parents of Preemies Day are holding a giveaway. It is my understanding that a winner will be selected on Friday (August 28) -- so time is of the essence. Please visit their respective Facebook pages for entry details.

SYNAGIS WORRIES - Our pediatrician isn't sure if we will qualify for Synagis this year given the new American Academy of Pediatrics' guidelines. I'm obviously concerned -- and am already starting to think about how best to appeal possible coverage denial.

FLU VACCINE - It appears that the flu vaccine is already available. My parents already got their vaccines so I'm adding flu shots to my "to do" list.
