Win an Autographed Copy of 'Bentley's Preemie Blessing'

I am thrilled that my first children's book, Bentley's Preemie Blessing, is now available online at Amazon. Although I wrote the book in honor of my preemie daughter, Emily, I realize that it may be valuable to other families and friends who have been impacted by prematurity.

About the Book

Bentley's Preemie Blessing is a whimsical picture book aimed at helping children, families, and friends understand premature birth and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).  This true story is told from the point of view of a dog, named Bentley.  Although Bentley is eager to meet his human baby sister, Emily, he is not allowed in the NICU and spends a lot of time with his human Grandma.  Bentley anxiously waits for Emily to be discharged from the NICU so that they can be together at last.

Bentley's Preemie Blessing can be read to young children who cannot yet read on their own. This book is intended to help explain and generate a discussion with a child who was premature about their personal NICU journey. It is also appropriate for any siblings, family members, and friends who would value a greater understanding of prematurity and the NICU experience.

About the Author

I (Michelle Stevens) wrote Bentley’s Preemie Blessing in honor of my preemie, Emily.  Emily was born weighing one pound, eight ounces.  Today, she is 18 months old and a little more than 18 pounds.  She is walking and even using jargon. I am proud of her each and every day.

Before becoming a stay-at-home mom, I was a health care policy wonk. Most recently, I served as the Vice President of Public Policy at health care trade association.  Prior to that, I was a congressional staffer and worked in both the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives handling health policy issues.

I have always enjoyed writing and drawing. When I was little, I wrote and illustrated several books for my family.  Although these books were never published, my love for writing and drawing lives on.
