Have You Ever Run Out of Formula?

Over the weekend, we almost ran out of EleCare Jr with vanilla flavoring. We had already ordered a few cases, but the shipment had been delayed.

We were in a massive panic. We examined the shelves of the local drug store and found nothing. We also checked the Abbott website for local stores that may carry Elecare Jr and came up dry.

For 15 months, Emily has been taking Neosure mixed in a special manner to achieve 26 calories per ounce. Her nutritionist suggested that she may have a milk allergy or intolerance, so we bought one can of it to test drive. In hindsight, we should have bought several cans of EleCare Jr.

We still had four containers of leftover Neosure, but weren't thrilled about switching back to this milk-based product just to transition back to EleCare Jr once our shipment arrived. So, I turned to Craig's List to find this nutritional treasure.

Luckily, I found a family in Maryland who was selling 11 unopened cans of EleCare Jr with vanilla flavoring. We drove more than three hours roundtrip to buy the cans. It was worth the time and the gas to make sure that Emily gets the nutrition she needs.

Have you ever run out of specialty formula before your next shipment arrived?  What did you do?

  2. Thanks, Heather! Finding Elecare Jr locally is like looking for a needle in the haystack! I completely agree with you concerning Craigslist. It helped our baby get the nutrition she needed when she needed it most. I'm feeling very blessed. Thanks so much for reading and for your comment. Have a wonderful evening! -Michelle
