Celebrating Parents of Preemies Day & the March for Babies

Happy Parents of Preemies Day!

Whether you are a mom, dad, grandma, grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, or friend of a preemie, Preemie Blessings is celebrating YOU!  I'm sending each of you a virtual round of applause, as well as a virtual hug for your commitment and dedication to preemies and preemie awareness. For more information on some of the people I am honoring today, please see my previous blog post at:  http://www.preemieblessings.com/2014/04/parents-of-preemies-day-may-4-2014.html

Recognize Parents of Preemies

C.S. Lewis said, "Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, 'What! You too?  I thought I was the only one."

This quote pretty much sums up my journey as a preemie mom. I have developed many strong friendships with incredible preemie moms through the Preemie Blessings website, the Graham's Foundation, the Intrauterine Growth Restriction Support Group Facebook page, Preemies Today, and many other social media channels.

I have found that peer-to-peer support to be incredibly valuable. There's comfort knowing that I'm not the only one with a one pound eight ounce baby. There's comfort knowing that I'm not the only one whose boobs gave out before they were ready to stop pumping. And, there's comfort knowing that I'm not the only one who is struggling with child feeding and nutrition issues, including reflux, milk intolerance, and sensory issues.

Earlier this week, I made a handful of greeting cards for a few parents of preemies who I met virtually. I am hoping that the cards I mailed brought a smile to the faces of these strong parents.

March for Babies

This morning, we participated in the March for Babies walk in Reston, Virginia, which is located about 30 minutes from Washington, DC.  We simultaneously celebrated Parents of Preemies Day.

The walk consisted of a huge crowd and lots of fanfare.

In addition to spirit signs, there were even cheerleaders along the route. They shouted, "We like babies, yes we do. We like babies how about you!?"

We wore Parents of Preemies Day stickers and handed them out along the route.

Preemie Blessings wishes you a Happy Parents of Preemies Day today and everyday!

  1. 1 out of 9 babies in the US is a preemie. Preemie parents are a special breed. Hope you had a great walk for Preemies today.
